The Maritime Photo Workshops
GENERAL INFORMATION
Location
  • The Maritime Photo Workshops are located in The south eastern portion of Prince Edward Island on The Point Prim Peninsula. The workshop center is nestled on the shores of the Northumberland Strait at the mouth of Pinette River. We are surrounded by preservation marshlands, ocean and farms.
    PEI Map
    The workshop facilities are simple and comfortable. Ample studio space is available for our Bromoil, Platinum and papermaking workshops. Our traditional B&W darkrooms are roomy and well equipped, the classroom and critique spaces overlook the ocean and the library is peaceful, stocked with a great collection of photo books.

    Within walking distance are fields, farmlands, ocean, pine forests and marshlands. Within biking distance are cranberry bogs, a fishing fleet and two active wharfs, distinctive architecture, century homes, 3-story barns and the oldest lighthouse on the island. Within easy Driving distance are vineyards, ferries, The wild Gulf of St. Lawrence, National seashore parks and Charlottetown, the provincial capitial...where you will find great dining, excellent entertainment and a real insight into PEI's culture.

Accommodations
  • The Maritime Photo Workshops have a selection of rooms on site but accommodations are limited, sign on early. Point Prim and the Belfast area have a variety of living accommodations including campgrounds, cottages, motels, B&B's and deluxe rentals within a short driving distance. You will receive a detailed list of places to choose from in your registration packet.
    Heron Cove
    Depending on your choice costs can run from $25 per night for campground sites to $1,000 per week for deluxe, 3 bedroom homes on the water. We will be happy to answer questions and guide you to a comfortable choice. Workshop rooms have private baths and or water views and are $65-$75 per night.

The workshops are located on the Point Prim peninsula in the touring area called Points East Coastal Drive.

Waiver of Liability
  • Maritime Photo Workshop participants must be fully responsible for their own safety and welfare, health and personal property and not hold Maritime Photo Workshops, workshop staff or instructors liable for injury or loss of any kind while attending their course.

Weather and Other Thoughts
  • Prince Edward Island is surrounded by volatile weather conditions. Wind, fog rain and storm can create the most beautiful images. We cannot control the weather, we can only embrace it. NO refunds for bad weather. Be prepared to shoot!







Travel
  • Beach ViewPrince Edward Island can be reached by ferry, car or airplane. The most concise list of travel options is located on PEI's tourism site under "getting here."

    Upon receiving your workshop registration, a full information packet will be sent to you, including specifics about your workshop, maps, travel options and a list of lodging choices in the immediate area.

    Please check on your workshop's status before making travel plans. If you are traveling by air, we strongly urge you to purchase refundable airline tickets or cancellation insurance. The Maritime Photo Workshops cannot be responsible for any loss on airline tickets or other losses due to cancellation. the extent of our liability is limited to the return of fees paid to us.

Meal Plan
  • Mealtimes are often a good opportunity for participants to relax, get to know each other and discuss the days events. To make the best use of this time we will be catering light breakfasts and lunches here at the workshop center. If your group is planning a daylong field trip, box lunches will be packed for you.

    Our dining program begins on Sunday evening with a welcoming dinner and orientation and continues for light breakfasts and lunches for the following five days. The meal program is $95 for the week and is mandatory. We will do our best to accommodate special dietary concerns. Please discuss this with us upon  registration.

Lab Fees
  • Depending on your workshop and your personal usage, your lab fee will cover a portion of film processing, digital output, darkroom chemistry and or class excursions, etc. Expect additional charges with heavier use.

Traditional vs Digital Equipment
  • HaystackIf you are shooting with a traditional/analog camera All negative films will be processed on site or in Charlottetown. There is no E-6 processing on the island. Please bring equipment that has been checked for good working order, has new batteries and you are familiar with.

    If you will be using your digital camera, you must be technically self-sufficient and bring the following equipment with you.
    • A laptop computer with CD burner and at least 1 MB ram required.
    • The most current version of Photoshop with Bridge or photoshop Elements installed on your laptop. 30 day free trial versions are available from www.adobe.com.
    • Digital memory cards with compatible reader
    • Power adapters and cables for laptop and digital camera
    • Camera manual
    • Batteries and charger for rechargeable batteries
    • Blank CDs or DVDs for burning images
    Unless you are taking the "Digital Camera" workshop You must know how to download images from your camera, edit images using your software, and organize the edited images for critique.

    In all cases, unless your particular workshop is about learning your equipment, you must have a firm working knowledge of your camera and equipment.
